Car owners regularly check to make sure that their car is safe and reliable. If your business depends on IT, even if it is only for your emails, then it makes sense to check if your IT is “road worthy” and being well looked after.

Like an MOT for your car, it is relatively cheap, it will thoroughly inspect your IT and then provide you with a diagnostic report, with recommendations for any remedial steps needed.

What's included

The IT "MOT" inspects critical aspects of your IT:

• security, back-up and recovery
• how business information is looked after and used
• how suppliers are managed
• how all the IT and related assets are looked after
• how effective IT is in supporting the business goals

All of this is done in the context of understanding your business plans. Based on this inspection, you will receive a report explaining the options, both for fixing any problems and for "tuning up" what you have, so that you can make better use of your IT.

A more specific MOT may be for a particular project or system that is considered to be failing in some way. Again, the outcome will be a report with implementable recommendations for delivering the project or improving the system.
